Family Self-Sufficiency Program Celebrates Its Graduates
Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara Program Fosters Independence for Section 8 Residents
The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara honored 24 graduates who have completed the organization’s Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program with a ceremony and dinner on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Presidio Springs Community Room. At the ceremony, the graduates with their families celebrated the successful completion of their goals and journey toward self-sufficiency.
The FSS Program is a voluntary five-year program in which each participant develops a plan and a clear set of goals to achieve living wage employment and gain economic self-sufficiency. Throughout the five-year contract, the FSS Coordinator monitors a participant’s progress and assists by providing referrals to a network of service providers that offer program vision and coordination, life-skills, entrepreneurial training, financial literacy workshops, academic counseling, vocational rehabilitation, family counseling, and job placement. The FSS Program, aims to help participants achieve their own personal goals and greater socio-economic advancement, including college degrees, professional careers and first-time home ownership.
